LEPC Meeting was held on August 12th, 2004 at Konica Minolta Manufacturing USA, Inc. and hosted by Bill Nieland.
Introductions were made. There were no corrections or additions to the July meeting minutes-they stand approved.

Citizens Core Committee – Jennie Hege (Clarice read email from Jennie)
- Jennie was checking out her disaster volunteers that were available in case they needed to be deployed in the areas hit by Bonnie and Charley.
- Committee has nothing to report at this time.
Guilford County Emergency Management – Don Campbell
- On August 5th, 2004, GC Emergency Management held the Guilford County Emergency Operations Plan Overview. It was well attended with over 105 registered at the GTCC Campus.
- The meeting gave an overview of the new plan, its makeup and contents, with a way to give feedback.
- All municipalities, emergency response agencies, public & private agencies attended.
- On August 3rd, we were interviewed by Luisa de Van on WBTV 20 on Hurricane Preparedness in Spanish. It reached over ¾ of the State.
- 12 different spills – 11transportation and 1 railway (fire).
- With the hurricane weather and rain coming our way, please do not drive through water on roads—turn around and go another direction.
Education & Outreach Committee – Debbie Meurs
- We have 7 paid sponsors for the EH&S Conference, plus 7 other sponsors, waiting for their payment.
- Also, EH&S Conference has 13 vendors (5 paid) inside the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center and one vendor outside.
- Free Vendors: NC DENR (various departments, Emergency Management, Haz Waste, Air, etc.). One vendor booth for the NC DOL and one vendor booth for A&T Environmental Dept.
- Another booth will be set up for our Professional Organizations table (CHMM, ASSE, etc) and resumes and job openings. We have 2 resumes to post. If any of you have a safety & environmental job opening at your company at this time, please post.
- Other contributors are: Safety & Human Resource Solutions, LLC & Luisa su voz Latina are contributing 6 –30 second commercials, aired 2 spots on WB 20 and 4 spots on Time Warner Cable. This will air 2 weeks prior to the conference and will include commercial development. This is worth $2500.00 (Charles Vann). Safe Guard Shoes – 200 bags, Dow Corning – goodies and giveaways, Ciba – posters, Morflex – mosquito spray, News & Record – 2 free ads, Ecoflo – 200 bags, Beth Webb – facial, microdermobrasion plus discounts for all bags, and P&G.
- Debbie will do a special thank you sheet to all the sponsors that gave items for the giveaway bags.
- Registration Form – get count to date (8/5/04)—98 received at this time. Will need blank registration forms for people to register on site and for walk-ins.
Regulatory Review Committee – Alice Rimmer
- Committee has not met. Looking for someone to be the new chairperson for this committee—Billy Cobb will be the new chair.

- Homeland Security Grants are coming in now.

- September 9th Meeting will be held at the DiamlerChrysler Commercial Bus. Ron Campbell and Don Campbell will give an overview of the County Hazardous Materials Plan.
- October 14th meeting will be held at the News & Record and the topic will be OSHNC Lab Safety & Standards.
- November 11th meeting will be at North Carolina A&T State University and topic will be First Responder Training / Emergency Responder Training.
- December 9th meeting will be held at the Greensboro Fire Training Center for our Holiday Gathering.

- School – proposed bonds & improvements. People need to know where their tax dollars are going. Information needs to be given out and where money was spent.
Special Note – An Award of Appreciation was given to Mary Rakestraw for her many years of service with the LEPC. Mary is the first commissioner to attend on a regular basis and her input to the county commissioners has been crucial.
