The March LEPC Meeting was held at Dow Corning Corporation on March 10th, 2005 and hosted by Penny Partido.

Outreach & Education Committee – Debbie Meurs

  • Ewaste Recycling Collection Event – old computers, radios, electronic toys, keyboards, cell phones, monitors, printers, televisions, typewriters, copiers, stereo equipment, telephone, fax and answering machines…….anything electronic.
  • This event will be held on Saturday, April 23rd, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum/UNC-G Parking Lot on E. Lee Street.
  • Participation for citizens of Guilford County is FREE
  • Businesses may participate at the contracted rate:  Monitors-$3.50 each, TV’s up to 27”-$8.00 each, TV Console>27”-$14.00 each, CPU’s, Printers, Keyboards/mice, other computer peripherals, stereo equipment, phones, fax & answering machines, and any other electronics is $0.02/lb.
  • If a business has a large quantity they may deliver ewaste themselves to Synergy.  To make an appointment, please call Joe Clayton at 919-619-4856.  Synergy is a locally owned ewaste recycler.

 

Regulatory Review Committee – Billy Cobb

  • Meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 28 at 1:30pm at the City of Greensboro Training Center on the corner of Maple and 4th Street.  Please advise if you are unable to attend at this time and date ASAP.
  • Hazardous waste manifest – use old ones for now.  New manifest will come out September, 6th, 2006.

  • Guilford County HazMat Guide - met in High Point with Barry Tilley.  Excellent overview on High Point Emergency Response Plans.
  • Draft is being written for guide.

High Point Fire Dept – Barry Tilley

  • Minor transportation spills.
  • Tier II Reports are coming in to High Point.

 

Greensboro Fire Dept – Chief Hunter

  • Quiet
  • Airplane crash – 5 people in a small jet crash landed due to the landing gear not working properly.  No injuries and no emergency or hazmat response needed.

 

Guilford County Fire Dept - no report

 

Guilford County Environmental Management – Ron Campbell

  • Ron and Don were in a training session – no report.

 

NC Emergency Management – no report

 

Board of County Commissioners – Robin Reeves

  • Have met and appointed the new LEPC Liaison – Billy Yow.

 

Greensboro City Council – no report

New Business– Keith Robinson mentioned there will be an ASSE Meeting on 3/15 at Lone Star on High Point Rd in Greensboro.  Discussion will be “How to Handle the Media”.  Cost is $15.00/person.   Also, there will be a golf tournament sponsored by the ASSE at Corbin Hills in Salisbury on April 15th.  Cost is $45.00/person to play.  Please see Keith if you are interested.

 

Jim Husted - Review and the exam for CHMM Course will be held on June 6th – 10th (exam will be held on 6/10) at UNC-Chapel Hill (2005 National Basketball Champions---YES!!).  Instructors will be from the local CHMM Chapter.  Here are a couple of web pages for you to check out.

  • Track previous year for baseline, compare to present year
  • Training – Test scores, attendance, track % completed vs. scheduled
  • Corrective Action Closure – Incident investigations, compliance audits, % closed vs. schedule to be closed
  • Inspections conducted – Number of corrective actions
  • Safety Suggestions
  • Near Miss (or Hit) Reporting
  • Behavior Based Safety -- % participation vs. number of employees
  • Safety Work – Orders completed vs. orders submitted
  • Audits -- % unsafe conditions found
  • Safety Management System Implementation Grade
  • Show “Specific group activities at $cost has resulted in an improvement of $costs”
  • Need real numbers – not “imagined” numbers of avoided accident costs
  • Track against lagging indicators such as the number of accidents, productivity, downtime, etc.
